Autor, lletra, compositor music: de Jim Jacobs i Warren Casey.  Es va estrenar per primera vegada en 1971 , al Kingston Mines Theatre de Chicago , un teatre situat en un antic garatge de tramvies. I al cinema s'estrena al 1978.

Aquesta obra tracta del rebel Danny Zuko i la innocent australiana Sandy que mantenen un romanç durant les vacances, creient que no es tornaran a veure; però, per a sorpresa de tots dos, es retroben a l'escola secundària en començar el nou curs.
